Watering Cans

“Mom can we go to the JC Pennies, Labor Day Sale?”

“What?” I am laughing, as she is bopping around dancing, and begging,
“Please, please can we go to the Labor Day Sale…”

She has no idea what that even means. She saw this commercial and assumed it was a rockin party….

She is just learning about holidays and in her world, a holiday is a party, and that’s certainly true in this house…boy are we always partying around here…she just heard “Labor Day” and assumed party time!

Thankfully today we were party free. I couldn’t possibly do another day at the lake, or drink another cocktail( well…never say never) or eat any more hamburgers! My husband and I are BBQ’d out and basically, wiped out…

Good bye summer. A little sad because I had a lot of fun with my girls, and seeing so many friends, but looking forward to crisp apples, fall wine festivals, and pumpkins.

So what’s a tired couple to do on Labor Day but go to IKEA. We needed a few things for the house.

I highly recommend taking your kids there when you are bored and need something to do. You can just walk around and around and there is so much for them to touch and feel, the soft “faux” animal furry rugs, the sofas and mattresses to lay on, and all sorts of odd chachkies for them to “play with.”

We got to take them home and play more in the comfort of our own home!

I am free

I feel grown up. I am at the airport, wearing a dress. For years, I have schlepped it with yoga pants and sweatshirts in an airport, but this morning, I decided to put on a dress and jewelry, granted it’s a long, flowing, soft cotton dress, so it’s comfy for the plane, but a dress nonetheless… And might I clarify that I truly don’t travel that much – just realized that comment made me sound like I am some world traveler! Jet setting off to all these fabulous places- I am a simple, plane jane kind of a mom who has been on an airplane like once every two or three years – and always in the states – no European adventures for us – maybe one day…

It’s amazing how clothes can make you feel different, I mean, I feel so fancy that I just had to go to Starbucks and get myself a cappuccino – did I forget to mention that I am at the airport alone? No kids…yeeees…

I. Am. Free.

I love the girls but …Ahhh, I just took a deep breath and leaned back in my chair… no one is climbing on my lap, no one is fighting over anything – I was trying to think of a certain toy that the girls fight over but there is nothing specific – those two angels would fight over a piece of scrap paper…As I sit here and look at the vast array of airport snack choices, I am reveling in the fact that no one needs “ANOTHER SNACK.” I could go and buy a treat and eat it all by myself and not have to share…but I won’t because I need to start this trip on a relatively healthy note.

I am on my way to visit my dear friend Lynn, who was a JMU roomy and one thing we did well then, and still probably do now is EAT. We were such pigs…one time we met at the library to study and made a bowl of brownie batter- right in the library – and pigged out while we studied…Unfortunately, we were both about 15 pounds heavier back then!

Yes, we’ve come a long way from then, well, a little bit better – Lynn is probably more disciplined than me…last night I was munching on Reece’s pieces from fish week theme…I’ll post when I get back!

Until then, this girl is footloose and free and ….”I’m so fancy…” I hear Iggy’s voice in the background as well as the airport attendant calling Group Two to Board…

I’m not Martha Stewart

“Gia, will you get off of the counter!”
“Uh, what do you want now?”
“Can you just wait please!”

It was six P.M. on a Monday and I thought I could whip up a quick pink colored popcorn all the while trying to make flounder florentine, sun dried tomato risotto, and broccoli…yes, it’s true – domestic diva here – I kind of rock, my husband gets meals like this every night, well most nights, a few nights…Ok maybe just once in a while – gotta keep him on his toes!

I was gone all day, but I just had to do this – because that’s what I had planned, for my ice cream theme week – I was doing fruit faux ice cream cones as well as colored popcorn cones…

All on a Monday…because that’s what the plan was…

I was following a google recipe – trying to get the pink ones done, and get dinner ready, all the while juggling the girls climbing on the counters – helping out and wanting to eat the popcorn, trying to cook. I was kind of getting stressed …I trusted a recipe I saw on Google, and it flopped – it didn’t work…the popcorn was all soggy and virtually disappeared, I wish I could call this person and ask her why her recipe was wrong…and I definitely contemplated trying another one…but it was ten at night and I was exhausted but I actually was going to do it!

But then I decided I was tired – I came to my senses…because what the hell am I doing? I am not Martha Stewart! I don’t even make any money with this blog! The only thing I’m trying to do is make it to the top 25 on Top Mommy Blogs and my own husband doesn’t even remember to click the banner!

I sometimes wonder what I am doing with this blog and even my life…I’m constantly thinking I need to work on myself. But you know what, I’m tired.

I did my growing. I filled a lifetime of journals. I think I’m done.

I think that also goes for talking…or people who are always talking or thinking about what they’re going to do but NEVER DO IT!

Sorry – off on a tangent there…did I mention it’s 2 AM – can’t sleep!

I guess it takes a bout of insomnia to get me thinking – enough of corny projects like this…

I’ll just stick to the cooky crafts.

AND

I’ll just stick to being me. I’m busy enough, running marathons (figuratively), like this week, camp, the lake, cooking, play dates, ice cream theme crafts, play date treats, birthday party for a friend prep – oh my…the only thing I need to do is fit in some down time!

Down time – no blogging, no thinking about kids, no reading other blogs and comparing, no celebrity stalking (wishing I had those boobs or that booty…)

Ahhh, nothing better than coffee and a magazine!

So the pink popcorn didn’t work out but here’s a pic of our cute fruit ice-cream cones! Stay tuned for more of the exciting ice cream theme. Oh and I finally figured out how to do the popcorn!
