Miss Independent

“Oh geez,” I would think to myself when I saw yet another cute baby or toddler pictured with the hashtag #stopgrowing or #imissthemsolittle. I used to read these posts, shake my head, and think to myself, “Are you kidding me?” I can’t wait for her to grow up… whether it was Gia, Arianna, and now mostly Lexi.
Diapers, crying, spills, sticky fingers, and that constant trapped feeling… Ugh! Life with babies… I spent and sometimes still spend a lot of time wishing they would just grow up!

But recently my tune has changed. The saying “Be careful what you wish for,” definitely pertains to me these days.
potty
YES! THIS IS LEXI WASHING HER POTTY…With the bathroom hand towel! I promise, I washed it!
She is most certainly in her miss Independent Stage and it’s driving me crazy! She wants to do everything by herself and I mean everything!
climber

This girl is holding me up! I like to keep things moving at a nice, steady pace…click the safety belts on the car seat myself, cook and bake uninterrupted when I am pressed for time, and hang out in the kitchen without worrying that someone is going to climb the counters trying to get her own bowl or cup.
I really shouldn’t complain but… it’s just a wee bit frustrating!
Looks like my next instagram post is going to be #staylittleandjustletmemomon!

Watering Cans

“Mom can we go to the JC Pennies, Labor Day Sale?”

“What?” I am laughing, as she is bopping around dancing, and begging,
“Please, please can we go to the Labor Day Sale…”

She has no idea what that even means. She saw this commercial and assumed it was a rockin party….

She is just learning about holidays and in her world, a holiday is a party, and that’s certainly true in this house…boy are we always partying around here…she just heard “Labor Day” and assumed party time!

Thankfully today we were party free. I couldn’t possibly do another day at the lake, or drink another cocktail( well…never say never) or eat any more hamburgers! My husband and I are BBQ’d out and basically, wiped out…

Good bye summer. A little sad because I had a lot of fun with my girls, and seeing so many friends, but looking forward to crisp apples, fall wine festivals, and pumpkins.

So what’s a tired couple to do on Labor Day but go to IKEA. We needed a few things for the house.

I highly recommend taking your kids there when you are bored and need something to do. You can just walk around and around and there is so much for them to touch and feel, the soft “faux” animal furry rugs, the sofas and mattresses to lay on, and all sorts of odd chachkies for them to “play with.”

We got to take them home and play more in the comfort of our own home!

ICE CREAM THEME

Her nails have never been without polish, her hair is always perfect, her outfits – never without the perfect coordinating accessories – my mother – has always been… pretty much perfect, or so I thought, I mean, nobody’s perfect, right?

She still is, without a doubt, pretty composed, non excessive, gorgeous, always put together, well spoken, and very practical (among other fabulous things…)

One day she shared with me this memory, about how she was at the beach with her friend and ate a creamsicle ice cream cone…and then wanted another- so she had two ice cream cones that day…this is a lady who never binges or goes overboard with food so this was kind of a big deal – I picture my Mom enjoying her second cone with a smile….I love this story – it makes my Mom more “real” and makes me feel like it’s ok to be weak, to have a craving, and just let go…

Unfortunately, I have way too many “weak moments” in the land of overindulgence, but for this post, I am using the story about my mom to show that we are all human, and as far as my themes, I wasn’t able to finish all of my ideas…we had such a busy weekend but the kids had a blast at two BBQ’s so I think they made out just fine!

I think we as moms have been sold a bill of crap, Its like we are less than if we’re not super creative, amazingly talented, fabulously fit and skinny, feeding our kids creations like gluten free muffins made of coconut oil, organic flour, chia seeds, and flax)…

I’m certainly up for trying to make those type of muffins but if I just can’t find the time, it’s ok.

But we are real, humans, struggling mommas, who love our kids more than life itself, and it’s ok to be flawed, let your hair down, have three cupcakes ( once in a while), laugh at yourself , embrace your kid(s), and go to bed knowing you did your best, you tried things, and you were present in their day.

AND that’s my thought provoking piece that was inspired by ice cream…the following pictures are from ICE CREAM WEEK!

CUTEST GIRLS EVER
ENJOYING ICECREAM CONE CANDY LOLLYPOPS …they had a few licks and I threw in the garbage

Too much candy, I know, but the lollies were an impulse buy, and you know what, oh well, there’s always next week for smarter decisions …the girls won’t be little
for long and one day they won’t want to do these things with me!
