Oh Pizza

“Ugh, I have such a headache…” I would moan to a college roommate as I made my way to the center of the apartment…suddenly going from feeling disgusting to punch drunk giddy talking about our antics of the night…Who slept over? Who slept out? Who made a fool of themselves?… And then …the dreaded question…

“Did we get Papa’s last night?”

Oh no…

“How much pizza did I eat? ”
Three pieces…

“Oh shit, not again, oh and breadsticks too- damn, I am never drinking again!”

Yea, that was probably par for the course back in the day, and unfortunately through my wild twenties as well…

And a few sizes bigger in my jeans too…

I was young and free and reckless.

But then I moved on in life, finally got married, and then had children…thinking that it would be so much easier to stay healthy and eat better without so many late night food situations…

And then came the toddler years…

“Oh want to have a play date, we’ll do pizza.”
“Come on over, we’ll just get a pizza – so easy with the kids, right?”
“Ugh, I’ve had the crappiest day, I’m just ordering a pizza.”
” My child won’t eat anything but pizza so that’s what we’re having.”
” Oh, look, another invitation for a birthday party – pizza and cake.” ( Not calling anyone out on this one- my daughter is having a birthday party in a couple of weeks and that’s what we’re serving)
“Let’s go out – I guess we’ll just get pizza- at least everyone likes it.”

Aghhh…when will I ever get away from pizza?
Not to mention…
Goldfish, donuts, ice cream, cookies, and CUPCAKES:)

And my weak self control….sigh

GUEST BLOGGER NORMA ” Can you truly get away for a vacation and actually relax?”

This post is written by Norma – check out her bio under Guest bloggers

If you’re not taking the kids then I think the answer is no.

My aunt’s 50th birthday celebration was in Florida and I live in Connecticut. I love this aunt very much and she happens to be the only aunt/uncle that will fly or drive for any family event so this trip was a must.

I decided to combine the birthday celebration with a week long vacation. I haven’t taken a vacation in a while and now I know why!

There is just so much to do, especially when you are divorced.

Step 1- Make sure my ex husband can accommodate this particular week on his ever changing retail schedule.

Step 2- Contend with my daughters attitude because she had to lug her curling iron and a weeks worth of clothes to her dad’s place. My daughter can be challenging to say the least…

Step 3- Stress about my daughter missing her first SAT prep class because my ex may not be able to get her to the class. Try to arrange an alternative.

Step 4- Oh, schedule an emergency trip to the doctor almost hours before take off…because it seemed as if my daughter just got an allergic reaction to something! Had to squeeze that in and make a pharmacy run.

This last minute problem could have been avoided if I had handled it sooner. She has been telling me her head has been itchy for a couple weeks now. But something ALWAYS hurts so I don’t react as quickly anymore …Unfortunately, whatever she reacted to caused a really bad case of eczema. I felt terrible.

Which brings me to

Step 5 Make sure ex has all of my children’s doctor’s numbers, insurance information, etc…

Step 6- Add an international text plan so I can contact the kids while away.

And at this point, I hadn’t even packed! I was so excited to get away but I just don’t think I’ll ever be able to relax. Like …ever – my body, probably, but my mind … Well, it will be thinking about all those worries…

It’s a Good Day

“Well, I’d say it was a good day then,” text messaged Allison to me after I told her that a Kohls employee decided to take my expired Kohls cash.

Yes, my life is pretty mundane that I’m texting with my friends about Kohls cash…but the point of this post is her message to me…

I kept looking at her message and re reading the words to me (Forewarning you friends – I obsess and re read your messages over and over…kidding)

But then and there, feeling the kindness of a sweet employee who decided to give me a break, it was a good day.

Never mind the 23 other things that weren’t so perfect that week…all of a sudden it was a good day because I got to save ten dollars! Woo hoo! I need to start jumping up for joy from now on with the little wins in life!

It’s called the power of positive thinking, right!

It’s amazing how you can turn your whole mood around with the smallest things….

First day for Arianna picture

Mostly everyone saw this on FB, but a second view of these cuties won’t kill ya!
Yesterday, I picked my little one, Arianna, from her very first day of school and she had the biggest smile on her face…she said she had a great day, and that’s all I needed to hear. That smile took me through the night…( never mind that we asked her what she learned and she said “to sit down.” )

This admission of what she learned causing a slight pondering, thinking of the check we just payed to their school…oh and my older one said that she played in the park….yikes, I could do that with a bunch of kids, and it’s free…

Just joking – I have a lot of friends who read my blog and we send our tots to the same school…we love it there! But, it does make you think…

Kids are funny- they have such selective memories (kind of like men, well, most men, not those anal, obsessive, neat freak types that clean their houses while their wives get to relax…boy are those women lucky! I once met a woman who told me her husband had adult ADHD, and he couldn’t sit still so he would organize drawers, sweep the garage, alphabetize the spice rack, that sort of a thing – could you imagine! Can I rent one of those husbands once in a while?

One can dream right?

Back to the topic at hand – The point of this post was to relish the little things that go right in the day…some people are naturally more positive and optimistic, while some are more brooding and pessimistic – I tend to fall in the latter category, but I am ready to treasure my little wins!

In fact, I am currently writing this in absolute peace and quiet – while Gia is at school and Arianna is napping! Win! I should be cleaning or putting clothes away… But, the peace was too glorious to pass up…and I haven’t posted in a while…

IN FACT, my rank has plummeted on Top Mommy Blogs …. I’ve just been so darn busy with kids’s school and activities starting up…So might as well click!
